Tech toys and gadgets for a tough economy

About The Thrifty Geek

My name is Dan Appleman, and I’m your host at TheThriftyGeek.com.

I love gadgets and technology. Lots of people do. But you know what? I’m tired of the way companies and websites push technology on us. It’s all about what’s cool and what has the most new features. And if you don’t have the very latest technology (and upgrade often), you’re somehow behind the times.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of buying things that don’t last or don’t work as advertised. I’m tired of non-existent technical support. And in today’s economy, when every dollar counts, I want to make sure I’m getting the best deal and not paying for features I don’t need.

On TheThriftyGeek.com, We’ll be looking at technology from a different perspective:

  • Gadgets that can save you money.
  • Total cost of ownership – not just purchase price.
  • Off-brand technology that is just as good (or better) than the popular stuff.
  • Low tech as well as high tech.
  • Saving cash on technology that’s just slightly obsolete.
  • Best places to find deals (and places to avoid).

In short – this site is about value. Not cheap technology (cheap often ends up costing you more in the long run), but real value.

Objectivity

I write what I think. If I like something you’ll know it. If I don’t, I’ll try to be reasonably polite. Neither I, nor any invited authors on this site, accept payment or compensation for reviews (including products).

This site displays ads by Google. We have no control or influence over what ads are displayed.

If you are a company that would like us to review a product, please contact us via Email. All reviewed products will be returned to you (if you provide return shipping). We are not responsible for loss or damage. If you don’t want it back, it will most likely be donated to a local agency, unless it’s really cool, in which case I’ll keep using it, or really pathetic, in which case I’ll sell it on EBay :-)
